Museum

The Art of Silk Museum is a living interactive museum concerned with the production and manufacture of silk in the district of Soufli.
It was inaugurated in September 2008 and is situated in a carefully renovated neoclassical building, dated 1886, in the centre of Soufli.

The building has been lovingly restored to its former glory using original materials wherever possible. silk_museum

There are a number of interesting features which have been kept, such as the functional well, the heavy iron doors and shutters into the back rooms and the wall paintings in the Dye Room. The Tsiakiri family kept a photographic record of the works in an album which is available in the reception area.

This would probably explain the presence of the well inside the building and also the various fire safety measures such as the metal doors and shutters and a dividing wall throughout the building which passes through the roof to stop the spread of fire from the back to the front of the building.
